The Director of Merchandising is responsible for leading the Merchandising team in developing, advancing, and executing supplier and product strategies for Turn5's e-commerce retail business that support profitability improvements, revenue growth and market share gain.  In this high-visibility role you will have direct responsibility for a team that manages supplier selection, contract and price negotiations, supplier performance management, and problem resolution.


How you'll spend your time with us


  • Accountable for the overall product growth and profitability of each of our stores
  • Responsible for understanding the broader market (i.e. aftermarket automotive) to identify opportunities and changing dynamics to incorporate into strategic plans that drive revenue and profitability growth.
  • Drive execution across the product portfolio by building sound process and structure around merchandising activities and supplier interactions
  • Develop an effective and engaged team of Category Managers by coaching, motivating, and empowering the team.
  • Build compelling and profitable product assortments driven from an understanding of customer demand.
  • Develop assortment mix strategies by determining the appropriate mix of private label, exclusive, and branded product offerings.
  • Build exceptionally strong relationships with vendor partners and optimize vendor portfolio.
  • Seek ways to add profitability to store beyond product margin and traditional supplier funding.
  • Analyze data and use negotiation skills to recommend modifications to portfolio, product programs and best value options
  • Work collaboratively with Demand Planning team to ensure optimal inventory management and Product Development team to build unique and innovative products to drive growth of private label brands.


Key Role Requirements

  • Education: Undergraduate degree in business or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:5+ years of supervisory experience in a merchandising/buying role in a retail environment.
  • Ability to influence leadership cross-divisionally to develop, roll out and continuously improve supplier partnerships.

  • Ability to understand and analyze financial concepts/data and potential implications on category and suppliers.

  • Exceptional negotiation and interpersonal skills that can be leveraged in developing supplier and vendor relationships.

  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.

  • Considers the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers.

  • Works smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well to produce quality work.

  • Acts upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals.

  • Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change.

  • Microsoft Office - Intermediate skill level on Excel, Word and Power Point
